A retired ophthalmologist, is senior editor and publisher of The Social Contract. From 1971 to 1975 Dr. Tanton was chairman of the Sierra Club's National Population Committee; from 1975-1977 president of Zero Population Growth and from 1973-1975 chairman of the ZPG Immigration Study Committee. He is co-founder and first Chairman of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).
