Wetlands

In the larger sense, wetlands include underground aquifers, surface and ephemeral wetlands. The definition is less important than an understanding of their ecosystem role and maintaining a vibrant and healthy environment.

Wetlands are where Muir's admonition that all things are connected has its best meaning. Much of human society and the world's natural flora and fauna is dependent on healthy systems of wetlands.

The role and importance of these systems is highlighted in this section.
